Pharmacy Tech
Our certified Pharmacy Technician program prepares you to enter the Pharmacy field with confidence thanks to being trained in the classroom, and being prepared in Medical Career Academy’s clinical lab.
About the Program
Our course completely prepares you to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Boards, the PTCB exam. Passing this exam will qualify you to be certified nationally. Numerous states are now requiring PTCB certification to work as a Pharmacy Technician.
Medical Career Academy‘s classes are conducted 2 days per week for 16 consecutive weeks, and they will teach you how to help prepare and give out prescription medication in order to assist your future employer’s pharmacist. Some of the skills learned in this class are: how to help mix medicines, count pills, measure medication, and how to label and give instructions for medicine.
The Curriculum
- Review of the top 200 drugs
- Drug names and class
- Skills need to identify generic and brand names of drugs
- Pharmacy Calculations
- Medical terminology specific to the Pharmacy
- Skills to read and interpret prescriptions
- Dispensing of prescriptions
- Inventory control
- Billing and reimbursement
- Dosage calculations, and IV flow rates
- Dose conversions and drug compounding
- Drug control and regulation
Our Classroom Experience
Our Students will enjoy a multi-faceted exposure to being a Pharmacy Tech, both in theory hours and in lab skill classes. You will be able to handle real, exact Pharmacy equipment and supplies during each lab skill session. You will learn the best techniques and procedures as you practice with, both, fellow students and with lab assimilation equipment.
